Things You Are Guaranteed to Get When You Pray
God isn't a vending machine, but we often treat Him that way. Then we get mad or discouraged when we don't get that bag of chips we asked for. And we wonder if we can really be guaranteed anything when we pray.
We can.
Wisdom
You can always pray for wisdom, and it will always be given to you.
This is not about smarts or education--this is wisdom, that is, knowing God better and knowing what He wants better, and knowing what you should be doing better (discernment). Wisdom and discernment in any given situation are always available. All you have to do is ask.
Peace
No, not world peace. This isn't a beauty pageant.
This is that peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil 4). In any situation, you can ask for peace and it will be given to you. Nothing about your circumstances may change, but you will feel at peace about them. And yes, that's very valuable. Living in that peace clears your mind to walk through so much and make clear-headed decisions.
Fruits of the Spirit
You know the lists: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, godliness, moral excellence, knowledge (of God), perseverance. (Gal 5:22-23 and 2 Peter 1:5-7)
If you ask for more of any of these, you will be helped in doing them and having them more. And yes, again, this enhances your life. Imagine loving more, controlling yourself more, being at peace and having discernment to make the best decision in any given situation? That sounds like excellent equipment for navigating this fallen world.
All of this is available to you. Just ask for it.
