Frankly, stand up for yourself at work.
I once demanded to be hired or I said I'd quit the place I was working as a contractor.
I'd worked there for years as a contractor. Years.
I was a hard-working employee who deserved a salary and benefits and higher wages.
My company needed to show me I was valued for that work, or I was going to walk.
When I tell that story to most of my female friends, they freak out.
But that's how you get change in your life--you ask for what you want.
I guarantee other people are doing it while you aren't. And they’re not getting the short end of the stick as much because they've made clear what they expect.
You have just as much right to do that as they do.
Respect yourself and ask for what you want.
Even if it makes you uncomfortable.
You know what's more uncomfortable?
Living a life feeling unseen and less than because you didn't ask.
